MAKE ROOM FOR A PAUSE
Settle somewhere comfortable and let your breathing find its own gentle pace. There is nothing to achieve.
Rest your feet on the ground or choose a supported position. Breathe gently without trying to take unusually deep breaths. Skip counting or close your eyes only if that feels comfortable. No breath-holding is needed.
Stop if you feel dizzy, short of breath or uncomfortable. This is an optional pause, not a treatment or a breathing test.
NHS breathing guidanceLet your hands rest. Notice where the chair or bed supports you. If comfortable, soften your shoulders and jaw. Notice one sound in the room, then return your attention to a comfortable breath.
Keep your eyes open and stop whenever you like. Relaxation is not comfortable for everyone.

AN EASIER END TO THE DAY
Try one change at a time: a familiar bedtime, something enjoyable to read, or a quieter bedroom. Rest does not have to be earned.
NHS sleep tipsIf poor sleep continues or affects everyday life, speak to your GP. Accessories and bedtime routines are not treatments for insomnia.

Connection, an enjoyable activity and a little time to notice your surroundings can be starting points for a manageable day.
NHS five steps to wellbeingNOTICE WHAT IS AROUND YOU
Notice a leaf, the changing light or a bird's song. A seat by a window or a quiet spot outdoors can be enough; you do not need to complete a walk.
For a longer outing, choose a route that suits your mobility, experience and the conditions. All PAW walking listings have a stated minimum duration of 30 minutes.
